What We Do

  • Body Image

In our body obsessed world, it can be hard to move in the direction of appreciating — let alone accepting — the body you’re in. You’re told at every turn that there’s something wrong with it – not thin enough, not fit enough, not toned enough, not healthy enough, not active enough… – and we try, try, TRY to change our bodies in an effort to get an ounce of praise, recognition, or simply kindness from others. We internalize the messages that there’s something wrong with us and we often feel anxious, depressed, disgusted, alone, and never, EVER good enough. It doesn’t have to be this way!

We use a Body Trust® approach that is based on Health At Every Size® Principles, Intuitive Eating, and liberatory justice frameworks. Because nobody is free until ALL BODIES are free!

  • Intuitive Eating

What would it be like if you could live free from preoccupation would food? Like, not having to worry about whether something is “healthy enough” to be eaten, never thinking about the calorie count of something, being able to enjoy yourself and the time you spend with loved ones?

We’ll help you scrap the food rules, challenge diet culture, and get reacquainted with your inner, wise self — whose voice has likely gotten drowned out over the years by those claiming to know what you need.

    Perfectionism

You’re strong and independent, and you’ve always prided yourself on these qualities. Yet, it seems like others recognize them, praise them — or maybe you even suspect they target them? — and you now find yourself in a place where you are expected to do it all. We’ll talk about strategies that can help you take your time and energy back, allow yourself to be human, and understand how you were set up to become burnt out in the first place.

We’ll work to learn to trust yourself again and be able to advocate for yourself in a proactive, compassionate way, which often has the possibility of enhancing your relationships in the process.

  • Burnout

With all the care and effort you put into others — from extra projects at work, ALL the household responsibilities, and the emotional labor you put into your relationships — you’re exhausted and you never get around to taking care of you. In fact, nobody seems to take care of you.

Something’s gotta give because this pace just isn’t sustainable! Your well-being shouldn’t be the thing that suffers because everyone else can’t seem to do their life without you. Therapy offers the space to be able to hang up your superhero cape and be you — in all your burnt out glory! It’s okay to be your perfectly imperfect self here, fall apart, take a beat, and do it differently so you’re not running yourself ragged.

  • Gender-Affirming Care

Alignment is crucial to the work we do here at Embodied Journeys and we recognize the importance of feeling genuine in your experience of the world, but also recognize the dangers of living in a trans and non-binary bodies. We aim to provide a safe and supportive environment to do your therapeutic work.

  • Liberatory Care

We at Embodied Journeys believe that no body is free until all bodies are free. We operate from a social justice lens and recognize the various intersections an individual occupies, which have a deep and profound impact on their experiences of the world.
